Ukrainian Consul General Visits University of Opole
Oleh Mandiuk, Ukrainian Consul General in Cracow, declared his willingness to help Ukrainian students learning in Opole with consular issues. On Tuesday, February 16, Consul Mandiuk was a guest of Professor Wiesława Piątkowska-Stepaniak, Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Administration. This was his first visit to Opole and he left enchanted by the city and the beauty of Collegium Maius and the University Hill.
During the meeting - which was also attended by Eugeniusz Brudkiewicz, President of the Association of Cooperation: Poland-East, and Ludmila Kaszko from the Centre for Eastern Partnership - Oleh Mandiuk was acquainted with all the aspects of the situation of Ukrainian students in Opole: the growing number of Ukrainian students at our university, their educational preferences, internships, their settling down in Opole and their integration with Poles. Professor Wieslawa Piątkowska-Stepaniak presented also a project, conducted at the UO by Daniel Kononka under the auspices of the Office for Promoting Integration, which comprises a language school for foreigners from the East and legal and psychological consultations.
Ludmila Kaszko spoke about visa issues, and she also raised a sensitive topic of Ukrainian companies which take considerable money from prospective students for recruiting them for Polish universities, although young people can apply for admission to our universities without any intermediaries. Consul Oleh Mandiuk promised to help Ukrainian students from Opole with visa issues.
