The graduation ceremony at the Chair of Sociology took place at Collegium Civitas on 27 October 2022. The graduates were accompanied by their families and friends, and the event was made special by the presence of the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Izabella Pisarek, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska, and the Director of the Institute of Education, Prof. Edward Nycz. The students’ tutors also attended the ceremony.

The guests were welcomed by Dr Magdalena Piejko-Płonka, the Head of the Chair of Sociology, who presided over the ceremony.

“I am very pleased to be here with you today,” said Prof. Izabella Pisarek. “There are two very important ceremonies in the academic calendar - the first is the inauguration of the academic year, extremely important for the entire community, and the second is the graduation ceremony, important for a given faculty, institute or chair. And this is precisely the moment when we are meeting. As academic teachers, we strive to give you the latest knowledge and the best skills that will help you in your careers and in life. I sincerely wish you to make the most of them in your professional and personal lives. All the best!”

Prof. Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, also addressed the gathering. “This is a very important day, because you are about to receive your diplomas. The diplomas for which you have worked very hard," she stressed.  “Thus, this is a joyful day, but also a sad one, as many of you are saying goodbye to the University of Opole today. I believe that the skills you have acquired here will help you to develop your careers with success. May you be satisfied and happy and have a good memory of our university!”

“Sociology is a profession for the present days, when the world is getting increasingly complex, and you will be the ones to elucidate it," observed Prof. Edward Nycz. “May good life choices and helping people give you happiness, and I wish you that.”

Dr Piejko-Płonka also thanked those present for accepting the invitation to the ceremony and briefly recalled the year 2001, when the first enrolment in the sociology programme took place, and also the later years when the Intercultural Communication or Design and Social Communication programmes were launched. “The nature of the studies has been changing, new people have joined us, new worlds have opened, and we have gained a lot of experience," she said.  ''This day is your day of celebration. We are proud of you!”

The ceremony culminated with the presentation of diplomas to the graduates.
