Rectors of Wrocław and Opole Universities met at UO
College of Rectors of Wroclaw and Opole Universities
The first meeting of the College of Rectors of Wrocław and Opole Universities this academic year was held at the University of Opole. The rectors met in the Plafond Hall of the Collegium Maius, where they discussed a number of issues during the two-hour meeting.
“We feel honoured to have been invited by
His Magnificence Rector, Prof. Marek Masnyk," said Prof. Krystian Kiełb, President
of the College, who is also the Rector of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music
in Wrocław. “The main purpose of our meetings is to integrate cooperation
between our universities. Bringing the two academic centres together is of
great importance; it is vital to foster the permeation of ideas and concepts.
This allows us to cooperate in a wonderful symbiosis in many fields, and this
is undoubtedly an important value.”
“I am delighted that we were able to host
such esteemed guests," emphasized the Rector. Professor Marek Masnyk. “We
touched upon a number of topics. One of them was a very important issue of an
electricity purchasing group. Several universities from Wrocław, Zielona Góra,
Opole and one from Poznań belong to the consortium, whose aim is to contract
energy supplies optimally. Our first attempt was unsuccessful, as we were
offered energy 700 per cent over the price we had previously paid, so naturally
we did not accept this offer. Soon, in mid-November, we will receive a draft of
a new contract on this issue and then we will make a decision. Rector Kiełb
also informed us about the planned production of a documentary on the Lvov,
Opole and Wrocław roots of our academic community.”
As rector Masnyk pointed out, participants also discussed the Wrocław Science Festival, held annually on 15 November, and the idea of establishing a medical school at the Wrocław University of Technology.
