Sociology students under the guidance of Dr Iwona Sobieraj and Dr Karolina Kupis, and biology and biotechnology students under the guidance of Prof. Ewa Moliszewska and Patrycja Hendel, M.Sc., signed an agreement for the implementation of an international project: "Superbugs": raising public awareness of the risks of antibiotic resistance through service-learning (under the Civic Engagement grant) within the Forthem alliance.
The project will start in September and will involve students and academics from four universities: University of Valencia, University of Palermo, University of Mainz and University of Opole. It is a continuation of the activities initiated by Dr Belén Fouz and Dr Sergi Maicas i Prieto from the University of Valencia. In April this year, Dr Sobieraj and Dr Kupis took part in a series of workshops and meetings together with other researchers from the universities cooperating on the project.
The main objective of the project is to raise awareness among school youth and their families of the threat of superbugs associated with, inter alia, the overuse of antibiotics. The students, collaborating internationally, will produce information posters and conduct interactive training sessions for school youth.
