Invisible Virus - Invisible Victims
An online seminar, prepared by the FORTHEM lab "Diversity and Migration", will take place on 20-21 April 2021, from 3 to 7 pm. Registration until April 14.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, public attention is distributed unequally and the risk of overlooking some of the most affected is high. With this event the organizers want to focus on migrants, who are often underprivileged anyway, and in many cases the crisis hits them differently or harder than non-migrant groups. Apart from the health risks of the virus, they will concentrate especially on the multidimensional effects of lockdowns, border closures and other containment measures.
The aim is to show, from an interdisciplinary perspective, how fundamental human rights are violated, how existing discrimination is increasing, and what counter strategies individuals and organisations have developed against that. Local contexts in Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom will be compared.
