The Interdisciplinary Conference - Micro-Cultures of Gender, organized by graduate students of Applied Gender Studies, Sociology Student Research Group, Faculty of Philology, and Institute of Sociology will take place on June 1st, 2017 at the University of Opole, Opole, Poland.

The Micro-Cultures of Gender Conference is an opportunity to investigate gender issues on the micro level across different academic disciplines. The main scope of our interest is the individual and their social environment. There are at least two relevant reasons for which it seems to be important to examine the micro level. The first one - ‘gender’ is regarded as a notion construed and visible at the micro level.  The other one is contrary to the first one - ’gender’ is not easy to be observed at the micro level.

The event has attracted scholars from the greater region of Central Europe and beyond: Czechs, Hungarians, Turks and obviously Poles. The participants, who come from Warsaw, Prague, and the Mediterranean Basin, will join professor Anna Odrowąż-Coates, who will discuss her work among Saudi Arabians on gated communities as ‘soft’ and gender total institutions” in her keynote speech.

The conference starts at 11.00 am on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Student Activity Centre and the keynote lecture will be delivered at 01.30 pm. We would like to invite all the scholars and students interested in gender issues, as well as in the latest academic developments in this subject in different fields.

The language of the conference is English.

Conference date: June 1, (Thursday) 11.00 am - 5.00 pm.

Conference venue:  University of Opole, Student Activity Centre, Katowicka 95, Opole, Poland
