Intercultural Communication is a unique study programme conducted entirely in English in the Institute of Sociology of the University of Opole. Students from, inter alia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Turkey and of course Poland will be taught by an international team of academics.

People from various cultures, following different religions and beliefs are to study together. For example, an Indonesian student left his job in public relations to expand his knowledge at our university. A student from Georgia, who is a refugee from Abkhazia, witnessed her house being burnt several times. Now she wants to complete her education at the University of Opole. There are going to be Turkish students trying to find out who they really are at the time when their country is becoming more and more nationalistic. - This cultural and national mixture and different experiences of students are one of the biggest values of this programme - says Michał Wanke, programme coordinator.

Some of the academic staff members will also come from abroad. For example, a series of lectures will be given a professor from the University of Mazandaran in Iran, fighting for women's rights. A specialist in race inequality will come to us from the USA.

The aim of the programme is to educate professionals who will be able to work with and unite people from different milieux, with different religions, growing in different cultures and having different ways of thinking. - We live in the times when we are trying to close to the other, while, paradoxically, their number is growing. Societies differentiate and the lack of mutual understanding leads to resentment and conflict - says Michał Wanke.

A graduate of Intercultural Communication can be a very valuable employee especially in international companies. - In many corporations employees come from different backgrounds, e.g. German engineers, Polish management and local workers, inter alia, from Kazakhstan - says Michał Wanke. The graduate will be able to understand and solve the disputes arising from cultural differences. Their knowledge will be useful while preparing international marketing campaigns.

Students will have an opportunity to study abroad and have international internships.
