The European Centre of Palaeontology (ECP) was established on January 28, 2016 as a university-wide unit formed on the basis of the Laboratory of Palaeobiology in the Independent Chair of Biosystematics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology.
The Opole Region is rich in valuable palaeontological research sites which allow to study history of life in the span of over 350 million years. The Laboratory of Palaeontology has been conducting its research, inter alia, in the Odra, Bolko and Folwark quarries for many years. Intensive excavations have led to the creation of an enormous collection of specimens, which are not only of scientific but educational value as well. The collection is highly valued by researchers from around the world.
