8th best university in Poland!
Ranked 8th among universities and 26th among higher education institutions in the country - these are this year's places of the University of Opole in the Perspektywy 2024 Ranking of Higher Education Institutions. And this means that we are among the very top universities in the country!
The 8th place is shared by the University of Opole in this
year's ranking with the University of Silesia. The 26th place in the ranking
of higher education institutions is shared with the University of Life
Sciences in Wrocław. Last year we were ranked 7th among universities and 24th
among higher education institutions.
Ahead of the University of Opole in this year's ranking are: University of Warsaw (1st place), Jagiellonian University (2nd place), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (3rd place), University of Gdańsk (4th place), University of Wrocław (place 5.), Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (6th place) and SWPS University (7th place).
In the breakdown of the individual criteria assessed by the ranking chapter, the University of Opole was ranked 3rd in terms of publications and 7th in terms of research effectiveness.
“We are satisfied with our eighth place in this year's ranking, shared
with the University of Silesia. This position in the ranking means that we are
still in good company," says the Vice-Rector for Science, Professor Jacek
Lipok. “Once again, the quality of research, education and internationalisation
conducted at the University of Opole has been recognised. We treat the results
of this ranking also as an indication of what we can improve in the functioning
of the university. Therefore, those categories in which we ranked lower will
certainly be analysed in depth.”
The following fields of study at the University of Opole were ranked in the top
10 in their categories:
Social sciences - Political Science - 5th place in Poland
Theology - Theology - 6th place in Poland
Science studies - Computer Science - 9th place in Poland
Medicine and health sciences - Nursing - 9th place in Poland
Agriculture, forestry and veterinary - Landscape Architecture - 9th place in Poland
Humanities - History - 10th place in Poland
The ranking was prepared by the Educational Foundation "Perspektywy" for the 25th time. As the Foundation informs on its website, the ranking covers Polish HEIs (public and non-public), which are authorised to confer a doctoral degree in at least one academic discipline and have a minimum of 200 full-time students.
The Perspektywy Ranking of Higher Education Institutions
consists of four mutually complementary rankings:
- Ranking of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) covering all (except art)
HEIs in the country with at least the right to confer a doctoral degree;
- Ranking of Non-Public Higher Education Institutions comprising HEIs educating
at least at the Master's level;
- Ranking of Public Vocational and Applied Sciences Academies;
- Ranking of Study Programmes, this year covering 74 major programmes or groups
of programmes at academic universities.
The overall rating of each university is influenced by several indicators:
- Research effectiveness (30%), within which the assessment includes (inter alia):
- Effectiveness of raising funds for research, EU funding for research and innovation, the development of its own staff, academic titles awarded, publications, citation,
- FWCI (Field-Weighted Citation Impact) - an indicator measuring the ratio of the number of citations received by publications to the average number of citations received by similar publications indexed in the SCOPUS database for the years 2019-2023 (not including self-citations),
- FWVI (Field-Weighted View Impact) - an indicator measuring the ratio of the number of page views (.screen views) of the university's publications to the average number of page views as received by similar publications indexed in the SCOPUS database for the years 2019-2023,
- Top 10 (Publications in Top 10 Journal Percentiles) - an indicator of the extent to which the university's publications are present in 10% of the most frequently cited journals in the world.
- Internationalisation (15%)
- International students, students studying in foreign languages, membership in a European university alliance,
- ICI (International Collaboration Impact) -measured by the number of citations in publications with a foreign co-author in 2019-2023,
- International academic staff, mobility of academic staff (outgoing mobility) within the Erasmus+ programme, student mobility (outgoing and incoming mobility) and multicultural composition of the student body.
- Research potential (13%)
- Parametric evaluation, academic staff with the highest qualifications, doctoral and post-doctoral rights and teaching in doctoral schools.
- Reputation (12%) -
- Evaluation by academic staff and international recognition.
- Employability (12%)
- Alumni’s earnings and employment
- Teaching (10%)
- Availability of highly qualified staff and international accreditations and certificates held by the university.
- Innovation (8%)
- Patents and protection rights in Poland and abroad and SDGs, i.e. the contribution of the university's research to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
