Opole is hosting representatives of the member universities, responsible for the research area in their universities project teams and persons participating in numerous activities of the FORTHEM and FIT FORTHEM Alliance.

The guests gathered in the auditorium of the Student Cultural Centre were first welcomed by Prof. Stefan Müller-Stach, Vice President of Johan Gutenberg University Mainz representing the project coordinator. He thanked the rectors of the UO and the conference organizers for preparing it. “It is good to see you in person after the break caused by the pandemic,” he added.

“Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues from FORTHEM and FIT FORTHEM, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to Opole, at the University of Opole - said Prof. Jacek Lipok, Vice Rector for Research. He wished the conference participants good discussions and effective work towards meeting the challenges of the future.

The Rector, Professor Marek Masnyk, also addressed the audience. “I warmly welcome all those present here in the hall and those who are with us online,” said the rector. Welcome you at the first such important consortium meeting in Opole, one of the most beautiful cities in southern Poland. When three years ago I learnt that the University of Opole became one of the five Polish universities – together with the largest ones - to join the network of European universities, I felt great pride and joy. Our university's participation in the FORTHEM and FIT FORTHEM programmes is in a way a continuation of the Europa Master programme, which we run at our university together with partners from Mainz and Dijon. I am very pleased with the successes of the last two years. I express my joy and my hope that the time ahead of us will be as fruitful as the time that has passed. I wish you good work and that you leave our university and our city with the best possible impressions!”

Lasting three days (until Thursday 30 June), the conference is intended not only to celebrate the consortium's joint achievements, but also to welcome its new members from the University of Agder in Norway and the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu in Romania, and to plan new joint operations.

On the second day of the conference, the Rector of the UO, Prof. Marek Masnyk, signed on behalf of the UO a declaration of support for the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers
