Why us?

University of Opole – tradition and future
The University of Opole was formed in 1994 from the merger of the Higher School of Education with a branch of the Catholic University of Lublin. Here you will encounter historical academic values, here you will receive an education based on the latest achievements in science and technology, and after graduation you will find a satisfying job.

Our university comprises twelve faculties – Faculty of Art, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law and Administration, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Political Science and Social Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Theology. We offer the opportunity to study in over 80 fields of study.

We have something for you in every academic field – from medicine to the humanities, Polish and foreign languages studies, sciences and arts, as well as studies conducted in English and niche fields. At our university you can deepen your knowledge from prehistoric times to near space technology.

From dinosaurs to NASA technologies

We offer you the support of experienced and enthusiastic teaching staff, and studying in beautiful buildings, in well-equipped teaching rooms and laboratories, using state-of-the-art equipment, such as the ‘Virtual Heart’ application that our medical students can use, or the Medical Simulation Centre, where medical students learn medical procedures by practising on world-class simulators – comparable to those used in astronaut training by NASA.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology has a scientific supervision over the palaeontological excavation site in Krasiejów, which is considered to be one of the most valuable sites of that kind in the world. A sensational discovery was made here of Triassic proto-dinosaurs.

The University of Opole cooperates with dozens of scientific and business entities at home and abroad, and participates in the Eastern Partnership, Erasmus+, and Europa Master programme (this is the only study programme in Poland that allows students to obtain Master’s degrees from three universities at the same time – the UO as well as the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the University of Burgundy in Dijon). Almost a thousand international students study at our university each year.

The University Library is the largest scientific library in the Opole region. It consists of eleven specialist libraries, whose resources are closely related to the fields of study. Students and researchers have access to 875 thousand printed volumes and 16 thousand e-books.f

Our students have at their disposal four comfortable halls of residence situated in a campus located in the centre of Opole, close to transport hubs, cinemas, theatres, philharmonics, parks, the zoo, pubs and restaurants. They can pursue their artistic passions at the Student Cultural Centre, and try their hand as journalists in the university media (Student Gazette, SETA Internet Student Television, and Radio Signals). Fans of science can join more than a few dozen research groups, and fans of sport – thirteen sections whose members train in professional sports facilities.

Choose the University of Opole, choose Opole...

… a small city of great opportunities. You will quickly appreciate its charm and comfort. Here you move at the speed of light, cinemas, clubs and pubs treat students with special honours (and concessions!), and songs are written about the beauty of girls. This is where you want to be, to study, to return.

Studying at the University of Opole means spending years in the atmospheric city of Opole, with its cultural and recreational offer worthy of a large city, while remaining intimate, surrounded by greenery, in the aura of history with a breath of modernity.

Opole is a city located in an attractive tourist area of Poland, with perfect connections with neighbouring cities and European capitals, inter alia, Prague, Berlin, or Vienna. It is a city with historical traditions, modern attractions and an atmospheric and green environment. It has qualities of a large metropolitan area with its scientific and cultural offer, and intimacy and peace, making it possible to study and work in the beautiful surroundings. And it is a place where the National Festival of Polish Song is held every year.

“Studying at the University of Opole, which combines tradition with modernity, is not only getting solid knowledge that guarantees you a good, and satisfactory job in the future, but it also a great intellectual adventure and life experience,” says the Rector of the UO, Prof. Marek Masnyk.
