The University of Opole ranked sixth among 45 Polish universities classified in the Best Global Universities 2025 ranking. The ranking includes 2,250 leading universities from 105 countries.
The ranking is compiled each year by U.S. News & World Report, which takes into account thirteen indicators. They include international cooperation, the quality of research, publications and conferences, as well as the number and impact of cited publications.
In the global ranking, the University of Opole took 989th place, in the European ranking 352nd place, and in the national ranking 6th place, jointly with the Gdańsk University of Technology. The highest ranked institutions in the entire list were: Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University in the United States, and the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
The high quality of the work carried out by the academic staff of the University of Opole, as shown by the university’s ranking, results in a high quality of education for students. Currently, the University of Opole offers over 70 degree programmes. It provides education in fields ranging from medical sciences, through humanities and social sciences, to natural sciences and engineering.
“Our employees constantly seek to acquire new knowledge and conduct up-to-date scientific research. This brings a lot of quality to their classes,” emphasises Prof. Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska, Vice-Rector for Education. “This allows students to keep up to date with the world of science and participate in their tutors’ projects. They, in turn, create space for them to develop beyond the classroom. It is not uncommon for our alumni to remain at the University of Opole and continue their work as researchers and academic teachers. They often begin their career path while still studying.”
At present, the University of Opole educates 9,000 students from all over Poland, particularly from the Opole, Łódź, Lower Silesia and Silesia regions. There are also lots of foreigners – after all, the University of Opole is a European university, cooperating with over 240 universities in Europe alone. The list of the UO partners also includes universities from, inter alia: Australia, the United States, Brazil, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Mexico.
Our students are welcome to participate in 40 research groups, a choir, the Academic Sports Association, and the Students’ Union. The University of Opole also facilitates participation in international Erasmus+ programmes and the FORTHEM Alliance, involving short- and long-term student and academic exchange mobilities. It also offers numerous scholarships, ranging from maintenance grants and academic scholarships to the Rector’s awards.
You can join the UO student community even today. The second round of admissions is currently underway and, depending on the field of study, ends between 11 September and 6 October 2025.
