The Council of the University of Opole of the new term met for the first time on 8 January 2025 in the Plafond Hall in Collegium Maius. Its members received their appointments from the hands of UO Rector Prof. Jacek Lipok.
The new UO Council consists of seven members, of whom three are from outside the university: Andrzej Drosik (Chairman), Marian Drymluch and Andrzej Stańdo. The academic community is represented by Prof. Jolanta Nocoń, Dr Katarzyna Sznajder and Dr Dušan Bogdanov, and Aleksandra Krupop, Student’s Union representative. The Council will be in office from 2025 to 2028
‘We have been a council that expresses opinions on important aspects of the university’s activities. We seek to listen to the concerns of its employees and students,’ said Andrzej Drosik, who was also the Chairman of the UO Council in the previous term. ‘We also issued recommendations in the form of resolutions, which were suggestions as to how particular problems could be solved. We were met with a very cooperative attitude and an attitude towards people and towards solving their problems without running away from them. Once there is no shortage of good will, nothing is impossible.
The first meeting was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Education and Quality Assurance, Prof. Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska, the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Daniel Pietrek, the Chairman of the University Electoral Committee, Prof. Daniel Janecki, and the Director of the Rector’s Cabinet, Maciej Kochański.
‘I wish the members of the Board many challenges and opportunities, and that you are accompanied by cheerfulness, joy and satisfaction,’ said Prof. Lipok, ‘I also wish us all to work together with one goal in mind, which is the good of our university. The university is entering its prime, and I would like us all to take an active part in its further development. Let us do so using our experience and knowledge.
The Vice-Rectors, Anna Weissbrot-Koziarska and Daniel Pietrek also addressed the gathering. ‘The doors of the Rector’s Office are always open to you, let us take good care of our university together,’ emphasised the Vice-Rector for Education. ‘Our basic and most valuable resource is our people. The university has a considerable amount of things happening and a lot of challenges at the same time. We are more than happy to share the details of our work, be it teaching or research,’ said the Vice-Rector for Research.
