The ceremony of awarding an honorary doctorate to the well-known economist Prof. Jerzy Hausner will be the main theme of this year’s University Day celebrations. The UO will celebrate its 32nd anniversary on March 9 and 10.
The main part of the celebration will take place on 10 March at 11:00 a.m. in the Blue Hall. The programme includes, inter alia, a speech by Prof. Jerzy Hausner and a laudation dedicated to him, which will be delivered by Prof. Marta Maciejasz, Director of the Institute of Economics and Finance. The Rector of the UO, Prof. Jacek Lipok, will also address the audience.
In addition, UO scientists recently awarded the title of professor will be presented with congratulatory letters. The UO Academic Choir will open the ceremony with the national anthem and then perform ‘Gaude Mater Polonia’ and ‘Gaudeamus igitur’.
The event will be accompanied by an exhibition, prepared by the UO Library, presenting Prof. Hausner’s achievements.
On 9 March, at 6 p.m., a mass on the occasion of the University Day will be celebrated by Prof. Andrzej Czaja, Bishop of the Diocese Opole, at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Adalbert in Opole
This year, the University of Opole celebrates its 32nd anniversary, but its academic traditions date back to the 1950s. The university was established in 1994 through the merger of the Higher School of Education in Opole (1950-1994) and the Opole branch of the Catholic University of Lublin (1981-1994).
The Act on the establishment of UO was passed on 10 March 1994 – during the 14th session of the second term of the Sejm. Therefore, the 10th of March became the University of Opole Day.
