Events
On 9 and 10 March 2025, the University of Opole will celebrate its 31st anniversary. The celebrations will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Adalbert and the Blue Hall of Collegium Maius. The highlight of the event will be the awarding of the title of Honorary Senator of the University of Opole to Archbishop Alfons Nossol.
The celebrations will begin on March 9, 2025 (Sunday) at 6:00 p.m. in the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Adalbert in Opole, where Prof. Andrzej Czaja, Bishop of the Diocese of Opole, will celebrate a mass on the occasion of the University of Opole Day.
On the following day, the main ceremony will be held in the Blue Hall of the Collegium Maius, where Prof. Zygfryd Glaeser will present Archbishop Alfons Nossol’s efforts directed at the establishment of the University of Opole.
Afterwards, the UO employees who have recently been awarded the title of professor will be presented with letters of congratulation.
Although the UO was founded in 1994, the academic tradition on which it was built dates back to the 1950s. The university was established through the merger of the Higher School of Education in Opole (1950-1994) and the Opole branch of the Catholic University of Lublin (1981-1994).
The date, March 10, marks the passing of the act establishing the UO by the Parliament on 10 March 1994, when the University of Opole became the twelfth full university in Poland.
