The plaque in the UO’s Collegium Maius lists 52 distinguished names of honorary doctors of our university.<\/p>\n

Doctors honoris causa, which means \u2018doctors for honour\u2019 in Latin, are persons of particular merit in culture, the arts, science or politics. To celebrate these merits, universities confer academic honorary degrees on them. <\/p>\n

According to the Regulations of the University of Opole, the title of an honorary doctor can receive a \u201ccreator of scientific, cultural and social achievements of outstanding rank, which set new and significant ways of understanding and reconciliation among people, cultures, communities, and nations, and which expand the horizons of knowledge or culture, and representing the common good of the importance to local or supralocal, as well as a person building a structural base for such actions.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The title of an honorary doctor can be awarded to a person with no formal education but it should be kept in mind that it is usually bestowed on people with a high social or scholarly status.<\/p>\n

The conferral of the title may be requested by the council of the faculty which is authorised to confer the postdoctoral degree. Once the candidature has been approved by the evaluation committee and the senate, a procedure follows, the final outcome of which is an official ceremony that includes the awarding of an honorary doctorate and the delivery of special addresses. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
