On 4\u20135 February 2026, an international scientific meeting of the teams involved in the<\/b> PurHumanDrome<\/b><\/a> research project took place at the Institute of Zoology, University of Opole. The event was attended in person by scientists from Poland, Italy (CNR) and Armenia (YSU), whilst other researchers (from Australia and the USA) participated online.<\/p>\n\n

The aim of the meeting was to present the progress of the research, discuss the results obtained and plan the next stages of the cooperation. The meeting also provided an opportunity for in-depth scientific discussion and the exchange of experiences between teams representing various research centres.<\/p>\n\n

On the second day of the event, a guest lecture was given by Prof. S\u0142awomir Wilczy\u0144ski (Medical University of Silesia), which also attracted invited guests from the Institute of Medicine and the Institute of Chemistry at the University of Opole, as well as the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wroc\u0142aw. The lecture drew considerable interest and provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary scientific discussion.<\/p>\n\n

The PurHumandrome<\/i> project, which formed the basis for international debates and the guest lecture at the University of Opole, is an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the MSCA HORIZON programme. Its aim is to jointly overcome the boundaries of knowledge in research into tumour metabolism, specifically the ATIC enzyme involved in purine biosynthesis. In the consortium, which brings together scientists from five countries and three continents, specialists in biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics and medicine are working on new compounds capable of blocking key mechanisms in the development of cancer cells. The project has not only scientific potential but also practical value \u2013 it aims to provide young researchers with knowledge, tools and experience, and to strengthen international cooperation in the field of research into civilisation diseases.<\/p>\n\n
