Afghan little girls already getting their education in one of Opole schools

Following the completion of the refugee status procedure, new prospects have opened up for the fifteen Afghans who were taken care of by the University of Opole after their evacuation from Taliban-occupied Kabul last August. Afghan students are studying, some are already working, and their parents are looking for employment. All the adults are attending the Polish language course at the Faculty of Philology. The children have been admitted to one of the schools in Opole.

Due to the fact that the integration of Afghans into kindergarten and, above all, into school requires a lot of attention, a special integration programme of intensive Polish language learning and gradual entering into regular education was prepared in cooperation with one of educational institutions where both a primary school and kindergarten are run.

Hajar (11 years old), Elhan (3), Jannat (9), Raihan (6) and occasionally Zulaikha (2 years old - too young for kindergarten) work under the care of a specially hired teacher, who teaches them Polish and makes sure that the girls enter their age groups gradually and effectively.

We do not mention the name of the school so as not to generate too much interest, both for the girls and the school community, which has warmly welcomed their new friends. If you would like to find out more about this process, the teacher of Afghan girls and the project coordinators from the UO are at your disposal.
