The celebrations of the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the University of Opole began with a special session of the University Senate, during which seven members of the University staff were awarded with Medals of the National Education Commission. Starting the session, Rector Stanisław Nicieja recalled the history of universities in Poland, which dates back to the Middle Ages and spoke about the hardships accompanying the creation of the University of Opole, which was established on March 10, 1994 and was the 12th classical university in Poland then. The University began with only four and now it has eight faculties.

Today we have a very decent Senate at our University – he emphasized in his speech – We do not argue and we are all well aware of the challenges awaiting our University, whose mission should be timeless.

The Rector thanked Professor Wiesława Piątkowska-Stepaniak, Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Administration, for her efforts to create the Medical School at the University of Opole.

The ceremony of unveiling the sculpture of Heracles in the courtyard of Collegium Minus concluded the University Day. It is a sandstone replica of the 6th century BC sculpture now on display in the museum in Rome. The replica statue was sculpted by Rafał Rzeźniczek. It is the eighteenth monument on the University Hill.
